First Deacons. As we are making our way through 1st Timothy, we now find ourselves in the 2nd half of chapter 3 where Paul instructs Timothy on deacons and the proper function of the church. This is what we will be discussing tomorrow night among I'm sure other things.
After tomorrow evening we will be taking a break until the New year and resuming on the 2nd Thursday, the 10th of January. Yes that's right, THURSDAY! This will be our regular night from the 3rd on unless of course God instructs us other wise. Now, on this 10th day of January which is a Thursday, we will be celebrating Christmas by having a cheapo gift exchange (something you have lying around the house) and an ugly Christmas sweater competition. The winner will get their picture taken and placed on this blog where mostly no one will see and of course, facebook where many will see and hopefully share.
Some of you may remember last year we watched a video called 180 produced by Ray Comfort. He has just produced another video entitled 'Genius'. I think it's very well done and a very thought provoking commentary of where our culture is today. The best thing about it is that it isn't promoting the idea of changing the culture, it reminds us that our main calling is to be about proclaiming the gospel and making disciples. Check it out and leave a comment.
Refuge Home Fellowship
The Refuge Home Fellowship is a small body of Christians who gather every Wednesday evening to worship God through song, fellowship and the studying of God's word. "As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is flawless. He is a shield for all who take refuge in him." Psalm 18:30

Moral and Spiritual Issues and the Election
A couple of weeks ago we watched a video by Dr. Wayne Grudem on Politics and faith. I just heard this message by him on one of my podcasts the other day and thought some of you might find it interesting.

The Pastoral Epistles
Bible study is on for tomorrow night October 10th at 7pm. We will be delving into the pastoral epistles of Titus and 1st and 2nd Timothy. We'll be taking it in chronological order so tomorrow night we'll begin in Titus. I thought this would be a good area of the bible to study as we have had many a conversation on the function of the church and these books get straight to it with regard to ecclesiology. So, tomorrow night it's chapter 1 of Titus. See you then.

No Bible Study Tonight
Even though we will not be having bible study tonight, here's a great message I heard a while back and it is amazing. It was actually recorded about 10 yrs. ago but is extremely relevant for today. I would love to hear your thoughts on it.

A little bit of this and a little bit of that...
Last night...
Though we had a somewhat smaller turnout last night, we still had a great time watching the dvd , 'Do Politics Interfere with the Gospel?' by Dr. Wayne Grudem. We were only able to get through about half of it as we were having some discussion along the way but the basic message is that as Christians we should be involved in the political process.
Calvary Chapel Pastors and Leaders Conference...
Early Monday morning about 20 of us from CC Chester Springs headed up to the Finger Lakes region of New York for the Northeast Calvary Chapel Pastors and Leaders Conference. It was an awesome time of listening to some amazing messages from some pastors that are full of knowledge of the word, experience and wisdom. There was so much to soak in I am still processing it. It was also a great time to meet some new friends from church and get to know them a bit. There's nothing like good fellowship of like minded believers who are truly unified around God's word.
One of the highlights was the message from Amir Tsarfati. The link here is from a message he gave back in August out at Chino Hills, Ca. Just wanted to give you a taste of what he shared with us although because of the latest developments in the Middle East, he had a more updated message this time around.
Our next meeting...
Next week we will not be getting together because of the New Holland Fair. We will resume the following week and starting a new book of the bible. I'm leaning towards Philippians but I am still praying about it.
Until then, blessings to you all!

Calvary Chapel Northeastern Pastors and Leaders Conference
Last Wednesday we had a great time going through Jonah and had some pretty good discussion on the types and shadows of Christ and the sovereignty of God and His grace and mercy. God's word is truly amazing!
As for this upcoming week, I will be at the Calvary Chapel Northeastern Pastors and Leaders conference from Monday to Wednesday but will be back (Lord willing) and ready for this weeks bible study on Wednesday evening.
As for what book of the bible we'll jump into next, I'm leaning towards Philippians but I'll leave it open for now and decide in the next day.
So in the mean time if I can get a hold of a computer while at the conference I'll blog on what's happening and what's being taught.
Until Wednesday, blessings to you all.

Refuge Home Fellowship Blog
Hello everybody and welcome to the new blog for the bible study. First of all you're probably wondering about the name. I was reading through Psalms one day and there were several passages that used the term refuge. There was one however that really struck me. It was Psalm 18:30 "As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is flawless. He is a shield
for all who take refuge in him." I think this gives a real good picture of why we gather together to study God's word. It gives off the idea that we can trust in God's word as it is flawless which leads us into a true understanding of a God whose ways are perfect and in this crazy world, a God we can trust in and one we can hide in or take refuge. It is also a great reminder that Jesus is our refuge in that he died in our place for our sins and as a result, we are no longer exposed to the wrath of God because we are covered in the righteousness of Christ through His shed blod on the cross. He is our REFUGE.
Also, it is less wordy than some other options and since we meet in our home, I didn't want anything in the name that describes where we meet. If in the future we meet at some nuetral location, we will then give a more detailed description of where we meet.
On the right you'll notice some links. These are ministries I have been blessed by and thought you may be as well. I will be adding more in the future. If you have any you would like to recommend, let me know and I'll post it just as long as it's not some complete wing nut ministry.
Ok now to whats up next:
Since we just finished our nearly one year study through Romans and we weren't quite sure which direction to go, last week we watched a dvd on marriage which I thought was quite good. I would like to jump back in another book and was thinking of doing Jonah this week. I've been thinking about it quite bit lately and think it's a great follow up to Romans. Why? You'll see when we get together this Wednesday. I do plan to cover the whole book in one meeting as it's not as much a theological treatise as Romans was so we want to look at it from more of a narrative perspective. So, we'll see how that goes.
One more thing...I heard this message the other day as one of my regular podcasts and thought you all might enjoy it as well. Here's the link: http://vimeo.com/49417913 It's very relevant in light of the things happening in the Middle East in the last week.
There you have it. A new blog and a new book of the bible waiting for us this Wednesday evening. See you then,
Marc
