Hello everybody and welcome to the new blog for the bible study. First of all you're probably wondering about the name. I was reading through Psalms one day and there were several passages that used the term refuge. There was one however that really struck me. It was Psalm 18:30 "As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is flawless. He is a shield
for all who take refuge in him." I think this gives a real good picture of why we gather together to study God's word. It gives off the idea that we can trust in God's word as it is flawless which leads us into a true understanding of a God whose ways are perfect and in this crazy world, a God we can trust in and one we can hide in or take refuge. It is also a great reminder that Jesus is our refuge in that he died in our place for our sins and as a result, we are no longer exposed to the wrath of God because we are covered in the righteousness of Christ through His shed blod on the cross. He is our REFUGE.
Also, it is less wordy than some other options and since we meet in our home, I didn't want anything in the name that describes where we meet. If in the future we meet at some nuetral location, we will then give a more detailed description of where we meet.
On the right you'll notice some links. These are ministries I have been blessed by and thought you may be as well. I will be adding more in the future. If you have any you would like to recommend, let me know and I'll post it just as long as it's not some complete wing nut ministry.
Ok now to whats up next:
Since we just finished our nearly one year study through Romans and we weren't quite sure which direction to go, last week we watched a dvd on marriage which I thought was quite good. I would like to jump back in another book and was thinking of doing Jonah this week. I've been thinking about it quite bit lately and think it's a great follow up to Romans. Why? You'll see when we get together this Wednesday. I do plan to cover the whole book in one meeting as it's not as much a theological treatise as Romans was so we want to look at it from more of a narrative perspective. So, we'll see how that goes.
One more thing...I heard this message the other day as one of my regular podcasts and thought you all might enjoy it as well. Here's the link: http://vimeo.com/49417913 It's very relevant in light of the things happening in the Middle East in the last week.
There you have it. A new blog and a new book of the bible waiting for us this Wednesday evening. See you then,
Marc

ReplyDeleteIt's looking good! The name was the first thing that hit me. I thought maybe I missed a conversation about a name or something. I think Refuge works very well.
ReplyDeleteGlad you like it Karl. Avenger might be a little more catchy though. Just messin' with you.
